Four Days in Long Beach
California, the tenth largest car market in the world and the largest car market in the United States, has the highest EV penetration in the nation. Long Beach, known for its bustling port and vibrant urban environment, is emerging as a leader in the e-mobility transition. Through the “Charge Up Long Beach Initiative,” Long Beach is actively working to expand EV infrastructure, incorporate zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) into municipal and transit fleets, and support EV adoption across the community. Recent projects include the deployment of electric buses on key transit routes, a citywide e-scooter and bike-sharing system, and partnerships with private entities to expand charging infrastructure. Long Beach also boasts a growing number of green-certified facilities.
The Port of Long Beach has completed the world’s first all-electric container terminal and is working toward zero-emissions cargo handling and trucking. The port has a goal of all zero-emissions cargo-handling equipment by 2030.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), located about 20 miles to the north, offers a wide range of domestic and international flights. Long Beach Airport (LGB), located just a few miles from downtown, provides convenient domestic access and is serviced by several major airlines. For those looking to explore beyond the city, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Orange County are within a short drive, making Long Beach an ideal base for discovering Southern California.
